Textual Analysis 1

Textual analysis.

Goodfellas.

GoodFellas focuses heavily on action in its films as we see when Tommy de vito shoots the barman. There are meany camera angles in the film with a close up shot of the gun after he has shot him. This angle also has the man who is frightened as we see he is behind the gun. This scene has a lot of emotion because when the man has a very shocked emotion on his face after seeing what De Vito has done. Another camera angle is the long shot of the gun and the barman falling to the floor.

A code for this scene would be he is the stereotypical italian - american gangster becuase he has the accent and the gun. This is typical of italian american as they are alwaysassociated with being gangesters as in the film of the The Godfather.

The audience for this film in my opinion would be over 18's and be an audience of of C1 - E classes as higher class people wouldnt really be interested in crimes and the swearing that would be used in this film as it does contain a lot of bad language.

The Bucket List.

The movie starts at the end/near end, due to this the opening narration is left intentianlly vague so that you don't put it together the middle of a film, it`s a trope that the narrator is vague in films that start near the end if there is a narrator

The narrator in the film is the main character giving the main character the aspect of breaking the 4th wall. The Narrator is also very bias due to the fact he is telling from his own personal experience making him not very reliable. The narrator also seemingly has the ability to pause time to give exposition making him more than just a story teller but having an actual effect upon the film and the experience we get. The narrator both spoke in past and present tense during the film.

Fight Club.

The movie is about a man who has two identities and the fight he has between himself and his second identity as well as being depressed. He decides to go to a support group and finds himself becoming addicted to the group where he finds a woman who is just like him and loves the support groups.

In the film there are many dark colours which represent depression as may people claim that they have dark emotions and dark thoughts. The film is entirly in grey colours which could also represent his loss of emotions and feelings. His second identity which is more happier is represented as red which is a bold stand outish colour. The film has many camera angle shots for example there is a close up of the depressed character so we as the audience can kind of sense his emotions and depresive state. The audience for this flm in my opinion is mainly aroun the c1 and c2's.

Logo Research

For my media assignment i have had to look at different logos and show if they represent a dark tone or a more lighter tone and what it is trying to portray.  The first logo i looked at was a music band logo and the second was a film company logo.

The first logo i came across was the ACDC logo which is on a black background which could be seen as dark which could symbolize the heavy metal music which ACDC play.  As well as this the font of the logo is also dark red and a lightning bolt in the middle which also could suggest the heavy metal music as it is striking and makes you remember it.

The next logo is the Walt Disney logo. This logo is on a lightish blue logo. The logo depicts the words Walt Disney logo in a swirly font and behind it is a castle. This symbolizes a more light and fairytale tone. The castle and font is what makes the logo one of the most recognized companies in history

Research - 1

During my media lessons i have been researching videos that could help me with my coursework. For starters i typed into YouTube 'Photoshop tutorials' as this would help me when designing my logo for my production company.

As well as finding tutorials i watched videos from old films from the 1950's as i am doing a film set in that era. I also searched for Noir type films and watched videos.

A clips show on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1DKL-BNXqw showed me different clips from classic Noir style films. This helped me by showing me how the actors were portrayed and it also go me to think about the different camera angles i should use.

I have also been looking at videos on how to use iMovie as i am not familiar with the software. The video i found most helpful was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqNXhDEFgEk. This showed me how to bring films up and how to use the basics of the software. I was able to following this video split clips and add sounds into my movie which i would later need for when i insert my voice over.
